Shawn Richards is an award-winning country singer-songwriter and entertainer from Indiana whose journey has taken him from small-town stages to the Grand Ole Opry House. A 2025 Josie Music Award winner and six-time 2026 nominee, Richards has built a reputation for powerful vocals, heartfelt original music, and high-energy live performances that blur the line between artist and audience.

With more than 600 performances since returning to music in 2021, Shawn has become a familiar presence at venues, festivals, wineries, campgrounds and events throughout the Midwest. Whether performing solo with an acoustic guitar or fronting his full band, RadioFyre, he approaches every show with one goal: make the audience feel like they came to a concert, regardless of the size of the room.

THE ROOTS

For Shawn, music started early.

Growing up in Indiana, some of his earliest musical memories came from listening to country music with his family. A defining moment arrived in 1983, when his parents took him to see George Strait in concert. Richards was only a child, but something about the music, the stage and the connection between an artist and an audience stuck with him.

Before long, he was performing himself.

As a young singer, he competed in talent competitions and began discovering both his voice and his ability to connect with a crowd. His musical journey would eventually take him from Indiana to Austin, Texas, through years of performing, life changes and time away from the stage.

But music never completely let go.

In 2021, Shawn made the decision to return to performing. What began as a return to something he'd always loved quickly became something much bigger.

THE ROAD BACK

Since that return, Shawn has performed more than 700 shows in five years, building an unusually broad live repertoire and developing a reputation as an entertainer who refuses to simply stand behind a microphone and sing songs.

A Shawn Richards show might move from George Strait and Garth Brooks to classic rock, modern country, pop or hard rock—and then back again. His extensive catalog and vocal range allow him to adapt to the room in front of him, while his tendency to leave the stage, work the crowd and turn audiences into part of the performance has become a signature of his live shows.

For Shawn, being able to sing has never been the entire job.

The job is to entertain.

Whether the audience numbers fifty or five thousand, the philosophy remains the same: when people leave a Shawn Richards show, they should feel like they experienced something—not simply listened to someone play songs.

THE MUSIC

Shawn's return to performing eventually led him back to something else he had largely left behind: songwriting.

In April 2024, he released his debut single, “My Indiana Home,” a deeply personal tribute to the state and small-town roots that helped shape him.

That release opened the door to a growing catalog of original music built around the things Shawn knows best: home, family, love, faith, life, small towns, hard-earned lessons and the roads traveled along the way.

His Livin' the Dream EP followed in December 2024, while 2025 brought another career milestone when “Sundown in a Small Town” earned Richards the Josie Music Award for Country Male Song of the Year.

In April 2026, Shawn released his first full-length studio album, Open Road, Open Hearts, featuring nine original songs.

The album would go on to earn a 2026 Josie Music Award nomination for Country Male Album of the Year, while “Lucky Man” received a nomination for Country Male Song of the Year.

He also received 2026 nominations for Country Male Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year — Personal Portfolio, Country Male EP of the Year for Livin' the Dream, and Fans Choice — Male Alumni, bringing his 2026 total to six nominations.

On September 20, 2026, Shawn will return to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry House for the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards.

STILL CHASING THE NEXT SONG

Despite the awards and milestones, Shawn's focus remains on what comes next.

There are more songs to write.

More towns to visit.

More stages to play.

And more people to meet along the way.

New music is already in the works as Shawn continues writing and recording the next chapter of his career—music increasingly shaped by the sound that first made him fall in love with country music: big melodies, real instruments, memorable hooks and the unmistakable influence of '90s country.

It's music about where you've been, who you love, what you've learned—and whatever might be waiting around the next bend.

Because after all these years, there are still plenty of miles left in these boots.

BEYOND THE STAGE

When he's not performing, writing or recording, Shawn calls northern Indiana home with his wife, Kara, and their four cats.

Away from music, he enjoys cooking, gaming, spending time with family and finding the occasional quiet night at home between shows.

But the road never stays quiet for long.

The next song, the next show and the next town are never very far away.
